Grace Hopper Celebration
Challenge
As part of the 25th anniversary of Grace Hopper Celebration, the organization launched a dedicated Instagram channel to reach leaders in tech, highlight event moments in real time, and build year-round community. While GHC already had strong brand recognition within its host organization, AnitaB.org, the new account started with zero followers, limited awareness, and only a few months to establish a presence before the conference.
Solution
The team implemented a multi-phase, high-impact social media strategy focused on shareable, high-value content. We developed branded graphics using GHC 25’s bold visual identity, optimized for creator engagement. The content strategy was two-fold: it showcased authentic community storytelling and gave behind-the-scenes glimpses to build excitement and generate FOMO.
A critical tactic was adding the main AnitaB.org account as a collaborator on every post, instantly attracting a vast, relevant follower base. We also incorporated humorous, meme-like content to boost relatability and engagement while subtly conveying essential information about sessions and speakers. By expertly balancing entertainment with information, we successfully drove awareness and excitement leading up to and throughout the event.
Result
In a short launch window, the account grew rapidly, building a strong follower base, earning high engagement across Reels and carousels, and establishing the page as a central hub for the GHC 25 community. The new social channel grew to 1,631 followers, gaining 926 new followers solely from onsite posting activity. CSG maintained powerful real-time momentum with 69 posts over three days, and user-generated content surged thanks to influencer and ambassador participation. The channel now serves as a scalable platform for future events and year-round programming.
